Our Journey
How We Met
Picture a lively Saturday at Messiah’s New Life Tabernacle in Avilla, Indiana, where Drew and I first crossed paths. For nearly a year, we were part of the same church crew, playing volleyball and spike ball or twirling through group dances during church events, but never quite connecting. Sparks didn’t fly right away, but the seeds of something special were quietly planted in those shared moments of laughter and faith. It was a chilly winter day when everything shifted. Spontaneous line and partner dancing broke out in the sanctuary, with chairs pushed aside and music filling the air. I spotted Drew lingering alone in the corner. On a whim, I told his sister to invite him over, and that small gesture lit a spark in his heart. Little did I know, it was the start of Drew’s affection for me. Our real connection, though, bloomed the following summer on a church camping trip. Over a picnic lunch, we found ourselves deep in conversation long after the group had wandered off. We discovered a shared love for life’s simple joys; hiking, worship music, reading, and our faith in God. As the sun dipped low later that night, I caught myself thinking, “I wonder if this could be something more?”
Our Journey Together
Despite living 3.5 hours apart, our bond blossomed through late-night texts, heartfelt phone calls, and weekly Bible studies that brought us closer to each other and to God. We’d dive into scripture together, exploring verses we didn’t fully understand, our curiosity sparking deep conversations. Road trips to visit each other were adventures, siblings in the backseat, taking turns blasting our favorite songs and belting out lyrics with laughter that echoed for miles. A turning point came when we started exchanging monthly letters. Those handwritten notes opened our hearts, letting us share dreams, fears, and feelings we hadn’t voiced before. Each letter became a cherished keepsake, a testament to our growing love. Through those words, I saw Drew’s steadfast heart and knew he was my rock. Our shared faith, passion for reading, and dreams of bringing our imaginations to life, whether through creative projects or shared adventures, became the cornerstone of our relationship.
The Proposal
On August 24th, Drew whisked me away to celebrate our one-year anniversary with a fancy dinner at a charming inn in Eaton Rapids. We arrived early, and Drew suggested a stroll along the inn’s scenic trails, a perfect idea, since we both find peace in nature. As we wandered by a quiet river, he paused and asked me to dance under the treetops. Moments later he had me turn away and when I turned back to him, there he was, down on one knee, a ring sparkling in his hand. My heart stopped, and through happy tears, I said “Yes!” as he slid the ring onto my finger. The moment was pure joy, just the two of us, surrounded by nature, exactly how we love it. To top it off, Drew had secretly arranged for a photographer to capture our joy in the moments after and his family to join us later for a heartfelt celebration.
Our Future Together
As we prepare to say “I do,” we’re buzzing with excitement for the life ahead, rooted in our love for God and each other. We dream of quiet evenings studying scripture, adventurous hikes on new trails, and pouring our creativity into projects of our own and within the community. Whether we’re making a mess in the kitchen or hosting cozy game nights with friends, we know our faith will guide every step. We can’t wait to celebrate this joyful milestone with you, surrounded by love and the promise of a future filled with shared dreams. Join us as we begin this beautiful adventure together!
